How to prepare a TOK article?
People can learn in many different ways. They can interpret knowledge differently. So what is the Theory of Knowledge?
First of all, they should be open to different ways of knowing and different types of knowledge. They should think openly about these. For this purpose, inquiry should be made and Theory of Knowledge questions should be asked. The most important of these questions is "How can we know?" What counts as evidence for phenomenon A? How do we decide which is the best model of B? What does theory C mean in the real world? Through discussion of these and other questions, students develop a greater awareness of their personal and ideological assumptions, as well as an appreciation for the diversity and richness of cultural perspectives.
At the end of the IB TOK courses, an essay is required from the IB student. This essay should not exceed 1,600 words. The essay requires students to create a sequence of three objects that explore how TOK Theory of Knowledge emerges in the world around us. The essay focuses on a conceptual issue within IB TOK, for example, students may be asked to discuss the claim that the methodologies used to generate knowledge depend on the purpose for which that knowledge will be used.
What is the importance of TOK? IB TOK aims to make students aware of the interpretive nature of knowledge, including personal ideological biases - whether these biases are maintained, revised or rejected. It offers students and their teachers the opportunity to Reflect critically on various ways of knowing and fields of knowledge, considering the role and nature of knowledge in their own culture, in the cultures of others and in the wider world.
In addition, IB TOK asks students to: be self-aware as thinkers, encouraging them to become more acquainted with the complexity of knowledge Recognize the need to act responsibly in an increasingly interconnected yet uncertain world. ICT also provides coherence for the learner by connecting and transcending academic subject areas. It therefore shows ways in which the learner can apply their knowledge with greater awareness and credibility.
